Patriotic Pops!

If you are looking for a super easy and fun treat for the kids on 4th of July...this is it! We made these Firecracker Pops using 3 marshmallows, 1 red fruit roll up, 1 blue fruit roll up, white sprinkles, and 1 yellow Starburst.

We put our marshmallows on a lollipop stick. Poke the stick out on the top just a bit. We like Kroger brand fruit roll ups because they sparkle and you save money as a added bonus! We pulled out our red fruit roll up just enough to wrap around the marshmallow. Just eye ball it. Cut that in half and wrap around the edges first. It will stick together by pressing it. Do that with another strip of red for the 2 other stripes in the middle. Leave a space on the top open for the blue fruit roll up. Pull out the blue roll up and cut off enough to wrap around. You don't need to cut that one.

Take a yellow Starburst and microwave it for about 8 seconds. Press it into a circle and snip off the edges to make a star. Press it into the top of the stick. We used white sprinkles for stars on the blue fruit roll up, but stores have a million different star sprinkles out there to use for that. If you use sprinkles...just press them onto the roll up and it will stick.

A Booming Breakfast

4th of July is coming up so we had some American fun with our firecracker pancakes. We used pancakes, eggs, blueberries, strawberries, and whipped cream.

We made our pancakes into a rectangle shape. We sliced blueberries and strawberries. We lined up the blueberries on the top of the pancake and lined the strawberries up with spaces under the blueberries. Add some blueberries to make the fuse. We beat 1 egg and fried that up in the pan. Cool a bit and cut it into a star to add to the top. Finish it off with spraying on the whipped cream in between the strawberries.

My kids are not big on eating blueberries unless we make something like this. They gobbled them all up!

Mr. Pig & Mrs. Piggy Sno Balls

We had a package of Sno Ball Hostess cakes and decided to turn them into pigs. We used 2 large marshmallows, pink sprinkles, 1 small marshmallow, 4 mini chocolate chips, and cookie frosting.

We cut the large marshmallows in half. We dipped them in a little bit of water on the top and sides and then we dipped them in the pink sprinkles. Attach them with the frosting on the top for the ears. Take another half of a large marshmallow and do the same thing for the nose. Attach the mini marshmallow halves for the eyes and attach the chocolate chips on the eyes and nose.

The kids will have so much fun making this!

We also thought it would be fun to make a Mrs. Piggy. We did the same thing, but added hair, a mouth, eyelids, and eyelashes. Ours turned out to be angry Mrs. Piggy!ha For the hair we used a left over Peep from Easter. We used the frosting for the eyes and mouth. We also used 1 extra mini marshmallow and dipped in sprinkles for the eye lids.

My youngest happens to have a Kermit the Frog costume so we just had to get a picture of him with his little Mrs. Piggy cake. At least I got the picture before he got a hold of it and had fun beating it with his foot!ha

Elmo PB&J Lunch

We made this Elmo lunch using 2 pieces of bread, strawberry jelly, peanut butter, half of a clementine, 1 large marshmallow, and dark grapes.

We cut the bread in circles and snipped off some of the edges to look like hair. We spread peanut butter in between the two pieces of bread. Spread the strawberry jelly on the outside. We cut the large marshmallow in half for the eyes. Use half of the clementine for the nose. We cut dark grapes in half for the mouth and eyes. You could also use raisins.

This is a very quick lunch to make and it turned out pretty cute!

What's Up Doc? It's a Bugs Bunny Lunch!

We made this Bugs Bunny sandwich using 3 pieces of bread, peanut butter, grape jelly, strawberry jelly, 1 dark grape, 1 strawberry, and a small piece of white cheese.

We cut 2 piece of bread out in the shape of Bugs Bunny face. We spread peanut butter in the middle and put them together. We cut the other piece of bread to make the ears. Spread the top part of the face and the ears with just a small amount of grape jelly just to give it a light purple color. Spread on the strawberry jelly to make the mouth. Cut the scrap pieces of bread to make the whiskers, cheeks, and eyes. Cut the strawberry in 4 slices to put on for the ears. Cut the tip off of the strawberry to make the nose and tongue. We used dark grapes to make the pupils on the eyes, but you could use raisins. We cut a piece of white cheese to make the teeth. You could also use a marshmallow or use the bread scraps.

We gave Bugs a carrot and the kids just LOVED him!

Turtle Turtle Cake

My husband's favorite thing ever is the chocolate turtle ice cream from Brusters. It was his birthday last week so we wanted to make him a turtle cake. The kids of course wanted to shape it like a turtle as well. They also wanted it green, but their daddy is not big on food coloring. We thought we would stick with turtle ingredients...chocolate, caramel, and pecans.

My mom used to make the best Snickers Cake (that is what she called it) so we decided to use that recipe. We used German chocolate cake mix, a bag of caramels, 1/3 cup of milk, 8 T butter, 6 oz. chocolate chips, 1 cup of chopped pecans, pecan halves (for the shell and face), and chocolate frosting. We chopped the nuts very fine because that is the way the kids like it.

Preheat oven to 350

We used a 8 inch round pan, a muffin pan, and a souffle dish to bake our cakes. Spray the pans with non stick cooking spray..set aside. Make the cake mix according to package directions. Fill up the pans with half of the batter. We filled up 5 muffin pans in case one of them messed up. Put in the oven at 350 for 15-20 minutes. While that is baking...melt the caramels, butter, and milk in a sauce pan on low heat until melted. Pour over each cake.

Pull the cakes out of the over and pour the caramel sauce on top of each cake. Sprinkle with the chocolate chips and the nuts. Pour the remaining cake batter on top and put back in the oven for 20 minutes at 250 and then bring the temp back up to 350 for 5-10 minutes.

Cool the cakes and then pop them out onto a plate to decorate. This is what it will look like....

After you have the cakes on the plate, frost them with chocolate frosting. We cut our pecan halves in half down the middle to make our shell design. Use scraps to make the face.

This has always been one of my favorite cakes and the turtle turned out so cute! I will also add that I usually do not frost this cake because it is rich. However, it will look a lot better frosted if you are making the turtle!

It is soooooo good!!!

A Beelicious Lunch!

My 5 year old wouldn't dare take a bite of egg salad until we made this bee lunch. I thought the cheese puffs were cute, but he thought I should consider making a non pooping bee next time.ha However he did enjoy gobbling up that bee poop!

Bee Lunch 

2 pieces of dark german wheat bread
egg salad
cheese puffs

We cut the body out of 1 piece of bread and cut the head out of the other piece. We spooned on the egg salad to make stripes on the body and covered the head. Use the bread scraps to make the other details. Very simple!

Not only did this get him to try egg salad...he actually loved it!

Piston Pancakes for Father's Day!

First we would like to wish all of the dad's out there a Happy Father's Day!

The boys decided to make their dad piston pancakes this morning. He has lots of old hot rods and they wanted him to have a breakfast that was car related. Here is a picture of the best dad in the whole world (at least we think so) with our boys and his 1935 Ford coupe. Happy Father's Day!!

A Monkey Burger!

We made this monkey burger using buns, Morning Star veggie burgers, ketchup, & provolone cheese.

We placed our bottom buns on the plates. We made our burgers and placed that on the bun. We cut our provolone cheese (or any other white cheese) into a smaller circle to fit on the face. Cut two small holes for the nose. Cut 2 small circles from the cheese scraps for the eyes. We pulled off 2 very small dots from the bottom of the burger for the pupils on the eyes. We cut a extra bottom bun to use for the ears on the burgers (you could also use cheese). Squeeze out some ketchup to make the mouth.

We made potato wedges and called those his bananas. The kids loved it!

Mancakes for Breakfast!

My 7 year old thought of this fun idea for a Father's Day breakfast. His daddy loves tools so we made a hammer, pliers, and a screwdriver. We poured our mix in the pan on low heat and shaped our tools. We cut around the edges to give it a cleaner look. Simple and fun!

You could make anything dad likes. Try a football with the whites of egg for the stitching or a tie and decorate with fruit!

Octopus Fruit Snack

This is a fun and very easy snack that we came up with one day. We used 1 green apple, green grapes, about 7 mini chocolate chips (you could also use raisins), and 1 mini marshmallow.

We made a small cut on the side of the apple to get it to stand up and not roll over. You could also just cut it in half to make 2...I just wanted to eat the scraps! We cut our grapes in half and placed those on the plate for the octopus arms. We cut the mini marshmallow in half and attached them with peanut butter for the eyes. We also attached the mini chocolate chips to the marshmallow halves and for the mouth.

The kids loved them!

Clown Lunch

We made this Clown Lunch using bread, peanut butter, jelly, strawberries, 1 large marshmallow, 1 dark grape, and 1 Twizzler string.

We cut two pieces of bread into circles for the head. We spread the inside with peanut butter and jelly. We cut our large marshmallow for the eyes and mouth (you could also use a banana). Slice strawberries for the hair and cut off the end of a strawberry for the nose. Cut 1 dark grape in half for the pupils. Pull off a twizzler string and cut it to fit the mouth.

Such a fun and easy lunch. Get the kids to make their favorite clown hair. Give him rainbow hair with different fruit or a mo hawk!

Daddy Krabby Patties with a side of Sponge Bob!

I asked my boys for some Father's Day food ideas and this is one that my 7 year old came up with. They said Sponge Bob is not just for's also for daddy's! will have more fun making a Sponge Bob for their dad. They do have a good point!

This is what we did to make the krabby patties....

2 cans of crab meat
2 cups soft breadcrumbs
1 Tb of minced onion
1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
1/3 cup light mayonnaise
1 large egg
A dash of salt and pepper
Cooking spray
lettuce leaves
hamburger buns

Mix the first 7 ingredients together. Shape into patties. Spray the pan with cooking spray and fry up around 5 minutes on both sides until lightly browned.
My 4 year old would normally never attempt to eat such a think like this, but he gobbled this up!

For the side of Sponge Bob we used...

1 can of chunks or sliced pineapple
cottage cheese
1 strawberry

We lined up our pineapple into a square. Make the eyes with cottage cheese. Also make a line on the arm and waist with the cottage cheese. We cut the bottom of a bun to make the pants. Use pieces of pineapple for the arms and legs. Use raisins for the eyes, eye lashes, and boots. Cut a strawberry to make the mouth and tie.

This is so fun for the kids to make and we hope that daddy likes it too!

Monkey Moon Pie Pops

We came up with these adorable monkeys for my 5 year old preschool class. We used mini chocolate moon pies, vanilla wafers, mini vanilla wafers, mini chocolate chips, edible eye balls, chocolate cookie frosting, and lollipop sticks.

We attached our regular sized vanilla wafers to the moon pie with chocolate frosting for the nose. We attached the mini wafers with the frosting for the ears. We cut the wafer on the edge just a bit to give it a straight edge. We attached our edible eye balls with the frosting. We then attached our mini chocolate chips for the nostrils and piped on the mouth with the frosting. Pop it on a stick and there you go!

The kids fell in love with these and I fell in love with how easy they are! These are great to transfer to parties, etc... They hold up very well and you can do lots of them without spending several hours to do it!

It's a Mickey Mouse Lunch!

We came up with this cute Mickey Lunch using bread, turkey, cheese, dark grapes, 1 large marshmallow, and 1 strawberry.

We cut our bread into a circle. We put cheese on top of that and turkey. Trim the turkey to the edges of the bread. Save the scraps to make the mouth. We cut grapes in half. We put those on for his ears and cut a few around his face to give it come shape. Place one grape half on for the nose. We cut a large marshmallow for his eyes, but you could use white cheese for that as well. We cut 1 grape half and shaped to make his pupils. Put on the extra turkey scraps to make his mouth. We cut up another half of a grape to put inside the mouth. We cut a small piece of strawberry for his tongue.

The boys thought this lunch was just awesome and we hope that you like it too!

Guy Pie for Father's Day!

My 7 year old came up with this Guy Pie for Father's Day. We made a Rhubarb/Apple pie, but you could use your favorite pie recipe. You can use cookie cutters for any shape or hand cut shapes using kitchen scissors. We put a few recipes together and came up with our own using what we had. It ended up tasting wonderful!

Guy Pie

2 cups chopped rhubarb
2 cups chopped apples
1 1/3 cups white sugar
6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon butter
1 Package of Pillsbury Pie Crust


1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
2. Combine sugar, flour and cinnamon. Sprinkle 1/4 of it over pie crust in pie plate. Mix the chopped rhubarb and apples. We added a drop of red food coloring as well. Heap rhubarb and apples over the sugar and flour mixture. Sprinkle with remaining sugar and flour. Dot with small pieces of butter. Cover with top crust.
3. Cut out daddies favorite things out of the top crust and seal the edges. Daddy in our house likes tools so we cut out some pliers, a hammer, and a screw driver using kitchen scissors.
3. Place the pie on lowest rack in oven. Bake for 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and continue baking for 40 to 45 minutes. Serve warm or cold.

I think he came up with a great idea and his daddy loved it!

Mini Spider Man Pizzas!

We thought it would be cute to make individual sized Spider Man pizzas. We used pita bread, pizza sauce, string mozzarella cheese, 1 mozzarella cheese slice, and black olives.

We did one with and one without black olives. My 4 year old will not eat black olives not matter how cool it looks! We put the pizza sauce on our pita bread. We cut our string cheese into strips to make the web. We cut out the eyes from the mozzarella slice. You could also use provolone or whatever white cheese that you have. If you are using olives...just cut them in half and outline the eyes.

Pop in the oven at 350 for about 10 minutes or until the cheese melts.

This is so easy and the kids will have fun making this!

Ice Cream for Breakfast!

We made this Ice Cream for Breakfast this morning & using 2 Eggo waffles, 1 egg, and 1 piece of turkey bacon.

We made our waffles and cut them into a cone shape. We fried up 1 egg and we broke the yoke just right before we flipped it over to keep it white. Make the turkey bacon and cut a cherry out of it.

This is so super easy and the kids just loved it!
